A very large (14 hectare) campground close to Sydney with a great swimming spot.
The main feature and attraction of this campground is the large, and very deep, freshwater swimming hole. There is a sandy beach for easy access and it is surrounded by large granite rocks and native bushland. Truly stunning. There are also some small rapids which are fun to laze around in and for the brave (or stupid) some rock cliff faces which many jump off.
The campground itself is huge, mainly level grass and quite attractive. The amenities block is very well maintained and has wheelchair accessible toilets.
During opening hours, the park shop sells firewood, and is where you pay for your site (you can also book online).
There is a short (600m one way), moderately steep, walking track up to Caleys Lookout. As well as the lookout which offers excellent views of the valley, there are picnic tables at the top. Well worth taking a picnic lunch to have after the climb. It's a great way to introduce kids to bush-walking, as apart from the gradient, the walk is fairly easy and has steps and hand rails on the steeper sections.
Being so close to Sydney, bookings are essential in peak times, however in winter, you can often have the campground all to yourself. Might make the swimming hole less inviting though...
There are hot showers and flushing toilets, so the rest of the family won't be too put out by choosing this spot. A camp kitchen is also provided with fridge, stove and sinks for washing up.
Fires are permitted in designated fireplaces, however you will need to check on fire bans. If there are bans, then the camp kitchen is a good back up.
