This is a great spot for a family camping trip if you want somewhere to fish, swim and laze on the beach, but don`t want to head too far out into the wilderness.
The luxury of having a hot shower to wash the sand and salt from your swim is something most people will appreciate.
Being so close to Sydney and having all the facilities, makes this a very popular spot on most warm weekends.
I am lucky enough to have spent many weekends as a kid kayaking around Port Hacking and I have to say it is still one of my favourite stretches of water. If you have a sea kayak or surf ski, then this is a great spot to base yourself as you can head out through the heads and north or south along this magnificent stretch of coast.
If you are not into the rough water, head upstream and you can paddle all the way up to Audley Weir. Don't forget to bring a line, kayak fishing can be quite rewarding around here. There is a kayak hire open on weekends, if you don't happen to have your own.
I have had success around here with tailor, bream, flathead and squid. Try poking around the far end of the beach and look for the deeper sections and drop offs if land based fishing.
Fishing from Bundeena Wharf is great if you have the kids, and they are almost guaranteed of catching something (usually small bream). You can catch some good sized squid here at night at times.
If you have a boat, the locations are limitless. Look for the drop offs in the sand bars for falthead and whiting.
