Basic Bush Camp alongside a rocky gully with pit toilets and barbecues.

Located in the North West Region of NSW, nearest town Bingara.

The camp area is small and gravel, and really only suitable for small vans due to limited space. Tents will be a bit of an issue as the ground is stony and there is no grassed area.

There are two basic (male and female) pit toilets, with small water tanks for hand washing. You could also collect water (would definitely need to be treated) from the rocky creek below the campsite.

Picnic tables and benches are in poor repair, as are the built fireplaces, however they are serviceable if you don't have your own.

Rocky Creek is an interesting area to explore and can be accessed from the campground by climbing down the gently sloping rocks. There are a couple of promising, but shallow, swimming holes, although when I was here there was lots of duck weed. May be Ok for a dip after a bit of rain has flushed them out. This is cattle country though, so the presence of nutrient runoff means algae and weed are likely.

Although the area was originally formed by glacial action around 290 million years ago, most of the evidence has since been eroded away by water runoff. Still it is a pretty little campsite, and its amazing to think what has happened to this area over hundreds of millions of years.

Getting there

To find the glacial area travel along Killarney Gap Road between Narrabri and Bingara there is a well signposted \"Glacial Area\" located on the northern side of the road about 40km south west from Bingara and 65km north east from Narrabri. Note that the real glacial rocks are about 500m upriver from the parking area. ( No large vans ) Park up near the main road and go for a walk and see if you are able to get in and out. There is a turning road, but I would still walk down there, around 2-3 mins.

It is about 37km South-West from Bingara, or 70km North East from Narrabri, NSW.
