Camping with full amenities, on the edge of Copeton Dam (with 3 times as much water as Sydney Harbour).
This is a very popular spot in the warmer weather, and the main campgrounds get quite packed with families. There is a boat ramp, kiosk, hot showers, flushing toilets, barbecues and an excellent kids playground (even has a giant jumping pillow thingy). There is alsoa pool and water play park with splashing, spraying thingamajigs to keep the kids amused while you enjoy the company of all your neighbours.
The dam is not a bad fishing spot for all the usual freshwater species (cod, yellow belly etc). There is a concrete boat ramp from the campground and easy put in for kayaks on the grassy banks. There is boat hire from the kiosk if you don't have your own.
If the main camping area is a bit too crowded, you can continue on the road past it and camp on the dam edge at many different spots (with no facilities) or around 5 "amenities" blocks throughout the 900 hectares. Most of those sites are a bit rocky and sloping (it is a dam edge after all) and they vary depending on the height of the water.
Powered sites are also availabe at two locations.
We cheated when we stayed here, we actually used one of the cabins, however they are pretty small and cramped, and would have preferred the tent with a bit more space around.
