Hard to find, smallish bush camping site on the Balonne River.
The campground is off bitumened Thungaby Rd East of St George (Qld), turning North off the Carnarvon Highway en route to Beardmore Dam (where there is NO camping).
Site is dirt and obviously dusty, with some grassy site for tents.
Some large and some small sites, many shady, and reasonably level, suitable for self-sufficient caravanning and camping. No facilities.
There is a Youth Hostel on the eastern side of Thungaby Rd, and apparently the caretaker, if approached, will allow access to shower and toilet facilities. Possibly a fee for use. Check first.
Also, Google Satellite Maps shows River in flood, and Thungaby Rd cut. In other words, don't hang around when wet.
Pleasant enough for an overnighter or two for those (like me) preferring free camping - except on washing day!
20 or so sites, assuming people set up responsibly (UNLIKE van who put up long clothes line, filled with clothes)

Campground is next to the Balonne River, just off bitumened Thungaby Rd (and easy to miss), North East of St George (Qld). Take Carnarvon Highway from St George, turning North into Thungaby Rd after about 20km to Beardmore Dam. Keep an eye out for a left exit to the camping area after about 1km. You are there.
