Mount Disappointment State Forest is an accessible location near Melbourne with plenty of facilities, camping areas and 4wd trails.
The park is popular with hikers, especially those hoping to copy Hamilton Hume and William Hovell who first scaled the mountain in 1824. Apparently they were so disappointed that they couldn't see the ocean from the top that they named the mountain after their feelings.
There are many tracks within the park for 4 wheel driving, with some quite challenging and it is also quite popular with trail bikers and mountain bikers.
