Free campground on the edge of the Thompson River near Longreach
This is a basic free camping area, suitable for caravans. Being a free campground, it is fairly popular with the grey nomads and can get busy during the winter.
This is a good spot to chase Yellow Belly and there is a good quality boat ramp. Redclaw are also caught here. There is an annual Yellow Belly fishing competitions
There are rubbish bins and composing toilets as well as a taps that provide (un-treated river water).
The old decommissioned bridge is a good spot for fishing.
The ground can get a bit boggy after rain, and it is possible to get stuck if you aren't careful.
This area gets very busy during season, but out of peak times is quite pleasant. It is quiet being away from the highway and you can catch your dinner 50m from your van.

River View Park is now $3 for a night. Pay at information in town or honesty box at the site. Campground maintained by the council. Do the right thing and leave the place tidy to say thanks.
