Atkinson Dam is a popular picnicing, camping and watersport area, just west of Clarendon.
Buaraba Creek feeds 555 hectares of dam behind a 2km long dam wall.
It is a close alternative to Wivenhoe Dam and has 2 privately run campgrounds on its foreshore. When the water level is high, and the weather is warm, it is very popular with water skiiers and can get quite busy and noisy.
There are two boat ramps, one in the Atkinson Dam Caravan Park and the other in the public day use / picnic area.
There is an information brochure available here through the SEQ Water Website
Fishing
Large numbers of Saratoga have been stocked in this dam in the past, however, as it is an irrigation dam, it is often drained almost completely in drought. How many have survived is questionable. Spangled Perch are native to the dam and are also caught here, along with eel tailed catfish. There is no licence required to fish in Lake Atkinson.
