About Little Desert National Park

Wildflowers, diverse vegetation types and deep sandy soils.

The diversity of soil types throughout the park means that there are marked differences between different areas of the park as well as a wide variety of plant species (over 670)

There are large areas of Malle, Red and Yellow Gum woodlands and patches of cypress pines. There are also large stringy bark wooded areas through the central part of the park.

There have also been over 120 different bird species sighted in the park including Mallee Fowl, Honeyeaters and the rare Southern Scrub Robin Parrot.

Bushwalking

There are numerous bushwalking opportunities in the park. From Kiata Campground, there are several short walk options, see the brochures at the information stand. There is also a short walk that leads between Ackle Bend and Horseshoe Bend Cmapgrounds which is a gret one for spotting birds, particularly and dawn and dusk.

The Desert Discovery Walk is an 84km walk that takes in a wide diversity of Little Desert National Park. This is a loop walk, usually done over 4 days through the western area of the park and takes in the Mallee country and water courses.
