About Lane Pool Reserve

only 100km from Perth, near Dwellingup, Western Australia, Lane Pool Reserve protects approximately 55,000 hectares of Jarrah Forest along the Murray river.

The Murray River is the predominant feature of this park and after heavy rains is impressive. There are numerous bushwalking opportunities throughout the park and fishing, kayaking and bird watching are popular activites.

Kayaking

In spring, the rains lift the Murray river and whitewater sections provide some mild but interesting rapids. There are numerous points to put in along the river.

Fishing

Redfin are the main target species and the usual lures will have success at times. The best bet though is live minnows on a small hook under a float. Yabbies and worms seem to tempt them too. There is also talk about trout in these waters, but I haven't seen them.

Note you need a fishing license from Fisheries WA and bag limits and season closures apply.

Bushwalking

There are many marked walking trails in Lane Pool Reserve ranging from the easy Chuditch Walktrail (4km) through Nanga Mill and old town area to the 3 day Murray Valley Circuit which takes in a mixture of heritage, nature and river views.

Another popular walk is the King Jarra Walk which is a difficult 18km hike through jarrah forest following the Murray River and Valley below.
