Lake Leschenaultia Camping Area - Set in native bush, in the Perth Hills, on the edge of Lake Leschenaultia, with hot showers, washing machines and excellent barbecue facilities (caravans not permitted). more...
Perth's freshwater recreation mecca, Lake Leschenaultia is a great family detination for water lovers on a hot WA weekend. It also has a commercial cafe in case you can't cope without your latte after a swim.
Large grassy areas surrounding the foreshore, with covered picnic tables, barbecues, toilets and plenty of shade make this a popular spot for a day trip from Perth.
Facilities include a kids playground, kiosk/cafe, BBQs, sheltered picnic tables, canoe hire and an Aquatic Wheel Chair (This cleverly designed bit of kit can be pushed over sand and into the water).
The large, white sandy beaches of this dam make it an excellent spot for cooling off. There is also an old wooden jetty as well as a floating pontoon (with ladders) which gets quite a bit of use.
I have been informed that fishing is no longer permitted in the lake.
Take your own canoe or kayak or hire one on site. The lake is large open water so can get choppy when the wind comes up, but usually is calm and flat. The opposite end of the lake from the picnic area narrows down and is a great spot for spotting birds (if you are quiet).
There are marked walking tracks around Lake Leschenaultia and all are fairly easy going, being flat and well maintained.
There is a 3km walk around the shore which offers a good chance to see native wildlife.
