About Myall Lakes National Park

Protecting one of the states largest coastal lake systems, this is a boaters paradise.

The Myall Lakes are a series of large, shallow lakes moving from salt water near the inlet to slightly brackish in the upper sections. There are large sections of open beaches protected by the park and a couple of the campsites are on a small peninsular between the lake and the ocean.

Some of the campsites in this park are only accessible by boat, and almost all the others are on the water.

My last visit here was with the family at the end of 2012 and it is thought of as one of the best camping trips we have had. We camped at Korsman's landing which has a boat ramp and a jetty for loading the family. Resupplying the campsite was a matter of jumping in the boat and heading into Bulahdelah (you can tie up at the pub).

Apart from the numerous campsites located in the park, you can also hire a houseboat from Bulahdelah and spend your time exploring the lake system. Although not the cheapest way to see the Myall Lakes, it would have to be one of the best. Fish for your dinner and watch the dolphins playing and hunting.

Be aware, that this National Park is very popular over the holidays and the waterways can get quite busy (they even have a barge that pumps out your boat toilet). The best time to go here is off season, where you can often have the place almost to yourself.
