Unfortunately it appears this campground has now been closed due to misuse (see comments below).
An absolutely stunning area, although only basic bush camping, suitable for 4wds.
Longreach Waterhole forms part of an ephemeral wetland (Lake Woods) and is an absolute bird watchers heaven.
Lake Woods is the largest, temporary freshwater lake in the Northern Territory and can grow in size during the wet season to cover around 1000 square kilometres.
Unfortunately, only a small area of the system is protected and grazing and inconsiderate tourist use threatens this stunning area.
It is considered a site of conservation significance, see this link for more information on Lake Woods.
