Located in the narrow, forested valley of the Barwon River East Branch.
Most of the camp area is a cleared, grassed hillside with a few small flat benches cut into the hill - best for tent camping. Well shaded by tall Mountain Ash.
Camp access road and turning circle very wet, pot holed and rough (March 2003). Day car park is gravelled, level, small. It now appears (Dec 2013) vehicle access to the camp ground has been blocked - This is now a walk-in camping area, approximately 80 to 100 metres from the parking area. Pets on lead at all times.
Can be very damp and dank if raining
Lake Elizabeth hidden deep in the Otways has inspiring beauty with heavily timbered flanks and calm waters punctuated by the trunks of dead trees, drowned when the valley was flooded in 1952 following a massive landslip.
The elusive platypus can be found in the lake - wake up early or head to the lake at dusk to catch a glimpse of these shy Australian natives. Plentiful birdlife, including waterbirds.
Level nature trail track 1.2k (1hr return) upstream to Lake Elizabeth, Walk an extra 1k to "the beach" to view massed tree ferns across the water.
