This is a large campground, suitable for tents through to caravans on the banks of Chaffey Dam (near Tamworth) NSW

The main amenities block has hot water showers that are fed by $1 coins.

The campsites here are well grassed and spacious with direct access to the waters edge. If you have a boat, you can usually pull it on shore right in front of your campsite.

Cattle are allowed to graze in the edges of the dam every now and then, but if your are boviphobic, there is a fenced off "stock free" area.

There are tracks leading both directions when you first enter the campground, and if you follow them you will find many different campsites further away from the amenities block. There are additional windy loos dotted around so you won't have to go to far when nature calls.

There is also a good quality boat ramp for launching medium sized boats. When the dam is full, it is bitumen, however when the water drops it will be gravel. There is no jetty/pontoon, so you will have to load your passengers another way. (I make them wade in the water, but if you are nice you could throw them in the boat before you launch it).

Chaffey Dam

This is the main water storage for Tamworths drinking and irrigation water. During the last drought, it got fairly low and the town was put on water restrictions. They are planning on raising the dam wall in the next couple of years. At the moment (March 2013) the dam is at capacity and well worth a visit.

Fishing

Some good sized trout have been caught in this dam, although they seem to have their moments. Try slow trolling or a fly from the banks near structure. Yellow Belly are also regularly caught in this dam along with the less popular catfish.
