Remote (4WD access only) camping near sub-alpine wetlands.

High on the Plateau of the Barrington Tops National Park, you are likely to be met (if you are quiet and vigilant) by wombats, swamp wallabies (and their more common macropod relatives) as the sun comes up.

When the sun goes down, it is likely to get a bit cool (sometimes very cold) at this altitude, but you will be rewarded with a vast sky of stars. There are not may places where the milky way is so "milky".

There are a couple of great little walking trails, swimming in the creek and also fishing for trout in the creek (NSW fishing licence required).

Aeroplane Hill walking track is about 6km one way and medium grade, although in the cooler months, it will be a bracing hike. It traverses a range of different terrain, including sub alpine open woodland with snow gums, swamp/wetlands as well as great views from Careys Peak lookout.

Bring your own firewood as you are not permitted to collect it in the national park, and given the altitude of 1500m it can get a little cool (freezing at times).

If you are tent based camping and don't mind walking your gear to your campsite (short distance) you can camp right by the river. If you wish to remain near your vehicle the higher campsites are fine too.
