Open, grassy campground behind the sand dunes, just south of Hat Head.
The campground is a fairly open with some shade around the edges provided by paperbarks. A short walk takes you to the beach, or you can walk through to Hat Head.
Just north of the campground is a 4wd access to the beach.
The road into the campground is pretty good and suitable for conventional vehicles and camper trailers, but not for caravans.
Plenty of bird life, goannas and kangaroos. I spotted a hawk/eagle hunting along the beach and hovering above the rocks to the north. I am told it would have been a Brahimy Kite, however didn't get a good enough look to be certain.
There are no facilities at Hungry Gate, but if you are self sufficient, this is a good spot to be as it is a bit quieter than the other campgrounds.
