The only campground in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, this is a magic spot with a sandy beach.
The beach is sheltered in a bay, and has its own wharf where the ferry can drop you to your campground.
Although you can park and walk in to this campground, accessing by the water (kayak, powerboat or ferry) is the way to do it, it avoids nearly 3km of lugging gear down a steep track (and back up again).
There are wood fireplaces, gas barbecues, cold showers, flushing toilets and sheltered picnic tables, so you won't be without a little comfort.
There is an enterprising little business that hires out snorkling gear and paddle boards. Great option to keep the kids amused, see here for more details
I think my preferred itinerary for The Basin Campground, would be to do the bushwalk in (Conveniently named The Basin Walk), camp a night or two and then take the Ferry out.
Although this campground can't be accessed by car, it still has modern conveniences, like flushing toilets, public telephone, showers (cold only) and barbecues and picnic tables.
