A NPWS-managed campground alongside the Darling River, in the Paroo-Darling National park.
Formerly a long-established grazing property called Wilga Station, there was also the Coach and Horses Hotel in the immediate area that served the Paddle Steamer industry during the 19th century. An information shelter tells a lot more of the story, and also how the local ecology has been greatly affected by human control of the river system.
The campground is very good for shade, however almost all the allotted camping areas are underneath very large and old gum trees; like many NPWS sites, little consideration is given to visitors in tents-- however you'll certainly won't be disappointed if you have a thing for big trees besides a river. There are several short walking tracks, where evidence of the wildlife is easily noticed.
Warning: the unsurfaced road to this campground is only occasionally graded, and can have severe amounts of dust on it-- 2WD vehicles may have trouble when the road is at its worst. There is also DRY WEATHER ONLY access; you can be fined for traveling along the Wilcannia-Bourke road while it is wet (and extremely clay'd), even to 'escape'-- visitors should consider the possibility of having to stay involuntarily for several days longer than planned.
