Camping on the banks of the Snowy River in Orbost State Park.
Firstly, Woods point is not a destination for caravans towed by 2WD or in Big rigs. The tight turns between trees on the road in disqualifies the latter whilst the final hill drop into and out of the site brings true the verse in The Eagles Hotel California, \"You can checkout any time you like, but you can never leave!\" .
Before the last drop, there are 2 sections, at time of review, that almost qualify for 4WD. Both are washaways of the clay road and it takes a lot of experience to negotiate these. The road in then would be classified as poorly maintained.
There are 2 official sites (and 1+ unofficial) offered by Parks Victoria at Wood Point Reserve.
FIRST CLASS:
Costing $0,000 per night is the First Class site. Elegant Appointments include:
* Official fire place (BYO wood) * Picnic Table * Wino Bench * Two (2) horse corrals.
However it has only a small level area which is uneven and unsuitable for tent based camping.
See photos.
If you bring bikes or kayaks but not horses, please feel free to place then in the corrals.
BUSINESS CLASS:
Costing $000 per night, the Business Class site appointments include:
* Official fire place (BYO wood) * Picnic Table * Large flat area suitable for vehicle based camping.
See photos.
ECONOMY CLASS:
The economy class site is accessed through the First Class site. The First Class Occupier has a right to charge 10% fee each way for. An additional, unofficial track beside the toilets may offer a better Economy Class site, however this was not reviewed.
TOILETS:
There are two (2) longdrop toilets, 1 unisex and 1 unisex disabled. Why the disabled when everything else is \"feet on\" experience at this camp? Bureaucracy. Sheer bureaucracy. Absolute bureaucracy.
SWIMMING:
The camp is on the inside of a bend in the Snowy River. There is a long walk across sedimentary sand to get to a wading spot, and further stumbling through even looser sand to swim. There is no water at the camp, save the river, so bring lots of water to wash feet after the walk back from swimming or expect sand in the bed.
NAVIGATION:
Fed the same co-ordinates, a Tom Tom (lifetime maps) suggested approaching the camp from the other side of the river, whilst a Garmin chose a more direct route. There are numerous roads, and some of these may bypass the clay washaways, however none will bypass the final drop/climb.

This campsite is accessable with regular 2wd vehicles.
The most scenic route to Woods Point is to follow the Snowy River up into the forest. From the main street of Orbost turn at the Club Hotel, heading west on McLeod Street. Once out of town McLeod Street turns into the
“B†Road, which will take you through the farmland on the Snowy River flats.
You will come to a cattle grid followed by a gate that you should continue over and through (please leave the gate as you found it). You are now on Garnetts Track. Note: No gate Feb 2018.
After going over the Wibenduck Creek you will go past the last of the private property before heading into State Forest. Follow Garnetts Track and turn left down Wood Point Track which will take you directly to the camping ground.
The camping ground is accessible by 2WD but care needs to be taken on the gravel forest roads as they can be slippery in wet conditions.
