Lake Mombeong Campground

A flat, grassed, open plain adjacent to a tranquil shallow fresh water lake, backed by coastal vegetation on dunes to north and south.

Very few shade trees. Can be hot in summer. Exposed to winds.

Rating 3.5/5

Prolific bird life: water birds including pelicans, swans and ducks; honeyeaters, fantails and fantails in the coastal scrub. Kangaroos and emus are common. Trout fishing in Lake Monibeong (no power boats).

Many rare orchids might be found. By the Long Swamp to the east are the only Victorian examples of Yellow Gum (E. leucoxylon var. macrocarpa) with their pink or yellow flowers.

Walking track (600m) to very large, extended and mobile dunes, the endless surf beach (fishing, swimming dangerous) and Suttons Rocks.
