Lovely campground right next to the spectacular Dangars Falls Lookout.
Considering how popular the lookout is, this campsite never seems to be too busy. I have camped here a few times over the last 20 years and it surprising how little it has changed. I am happy about that.
There are wood barbecues/fireplaces at the campsites, but a short walk down to the undercover picnic area (at the falls lookout) you will find electric barbeques.
If you are lucky enough to be here after some heavy, sustained rain, the falls are a sight to behold, as you can see in the photos below.
I have rarely camped here and not seen possums, kangaroos and wallabies (especially on the walking tracks) and occasionally have spotted an echidna.
You can collect water from the river but you would definitely want to boil it before drinking as it travels through cattle country before getting to the falls.
McDirtys Walking Track
This (approximately 7km) track is great for taking in the gorges, surrounding bushland and wildlife. There is a bit of up and down, but nothing too challenging for the reasonably fit walker. The views along the edge of the gorge are spectacular and look out for wedge tailed eagles soaring between the cliffs.
Salisbury Waters
This walk is a bit more of a challenge. The distance of 14km is not so bad, but you drop to the bottom of the gorge and to get out you need to climb back up.
I have only ever done this walk as a day walk (in the hottest part of summer), but friends say it is best done as a 2 day walk, camping at the bottom. There are some great swimming holes at the bottom and you will definitely want to spend some time down there before getting the legs in gear for the climb back out.

Waterfalls, gorges and wild rivers among vast tracts of World heritage wilderness. This park is rugged and beautiful, but also very accessible.
This campsite is accessable with regular 2wd vehicles.
Access (via Armidale) Take Kentucky Street and turn at the sign for (about 1km) into Dangarsleigh Road. About 5km further you will see a sign on your left to Dangars Gorge. The campground and picnic area is another 15km further on.
Most of the way from Armidale is dirt however it is usually in good condition so would be OK for small campers/caravans.
